Boucleme Curl Cleanser, Curl Cream & Curl Defining Gel Review

So before I get into my thoughts on these products, let me share a little about them as per Boucleme's website.

By now, most of you will have heard of this popular, British brand. A favourite amongst bloggers and salons, I was pleased to have finally gotten round to trying some of these products myself and sharing my experience with you all.

I got these 300ml products in the sale on the Lookfantastic website. The shampoo and gel were £12 each and the cream was £15.20.

As usual, these products contain coconut oil. I did try them in Jaya's hair just for the purpose of seeing how they worked but sure enough, her hair was very dry the next day, though the Curl Cleanser and Curl Cream did work pretty well at the time of use.

That leads me nicely onto my thoughts on the first product, the Curl Cleanser, during my wash day. Remember my hair is high porosity.

Curl Cleanser: This product is creamy which made me think it was a co-wash but from what I can see on their website and the shampoo awards it has won, it seems to be a shampoo. For a cream based shampoo, it seems to cleanse well, whilst hydrating and defining- a rarity for a shampoo. Not a fan of the smell but it performed pretty well. (Note: I used this with the DevaCurl Wash Day Wonder detangler).

Curl Cream: I'm just going to say this now, I am not a fan of the smell of any of these products. They have kind of a lemon and herb smell, it's not for us.

Interestingly, I saw a post on a Facebook page a few weeks back asking why so many people were always selling their Boucleme products. The vast majority commented on the scent of the products. I wonder if they will take this on board.

Anyway, I digress. Other than the smell, I quite like it. It didn't blow me away but it felt nice and moisturising. I do think it also contributed to definition along with some scrunching/ squishing. Remember, my hair is currently recovering from some heat damage so that's a good sign. I like that the bottle has a pump too. I didn't apply a leave- in today.

Curl Defining Gel: I always feel I'm the wrong person to review gels lol. I'm just not a gel person. I get hold and definition without them which means I only started using them through The Happy Hair Co. mainly on Jaya to seal moisture and give her curls a longer hold than the usual 1 day wash and go and on my hair for product reviews.

This also means that I have no idea on the best gel techniques. I'm not really selling myself here but have to be honest as always. I applied the cream and gel separately, cream on wet hair, gel about 30 mins after.

Anyway, as usual I felt the gel was ok. I review most gels as just ok as I don't ever really see or feel a benefit on my hair over and above what I get from a cream/ butter. It has a runny consistency and leaves a strong cast. A cast is the hard film you get on your hair when using a gel. I scrunched this out with some sweet almond oil on my hands and my hair did feel soft afterwards, you couldn't really tell that I had applied any gel which I guess is good but again, leaves me wondering whether I would have needed it in addition to the cream. (FYI- you may have seen people in the natural hair community refer to "SOTC" this is scrunching out the cast/ crunch.)

All in all, I like that the products are mostly natural, I like their packaging colours and think the products work quite well, I can imagine results would vary for different people and different curls (as do many), some people seem to love these products and really feel the benefits but as you know, we are all different.

My hair feels soft, is pretty shiny, isn't weighed down, doesn't have much frizz and is quite defined. Not the best results I have ever had but good. The smell of all products is a no from me. It isn't as strong in your hair after a while, but still, no. (Though it is nowhere near as bad as how I feel about the Shea Moisture JBCO line which makes me and Jaya feel physically sick- so annoying as they seem like good products.)

I would use these again but probably wouldn't buy them again.

Here are my results from this wash day using the Boucleme cream and gel as stylers, what do you think?

Let us know if you have tried these and what your experience has been.

See you soon curlfriends.

Sacha x
